Why Your Spa Filter Matters
The filter is the hardest-working component in your hot tub. It traps oils, debris, and contaminants before they reach your pump and heater. A clogged or worn-out filter leads to cloudy water, reduced flow, and costly equipment repairs — all of which are easily prevented with a simple maintenance schedule.
How Often Should You Clean Your Filter?
Use this schedule as a starting point and adjust based on how frequently you use your spa:
- Every 2 weeks: Rinse with a garden hose (top to bottom between pleats). This removes loose debris and extends filter life between deep cleans.
- Every 1–3 months: Chemical soak overnight in a dedicated filter cleaner. This dissolves oils, lotions, and mineral deposits that rinsing alone can’t remove.
- Every 12–18 months: Replace the filter entirely, even if it looks clean. Fibres degrade over time and lose their ability to trap fine particles.
How to Rinse Your Filter (Quick Clean)
- Turn your spa to standby and remove the filter cartridge.
- Use a garden hose with a gentle spray (not a pressure washer — it damages the pleats).
- Work from the top down, between each pleat, rotating the filter as you go.
- Let it air dry completely before reinstalling, or reinstall immediately if you have a spare filter to rotate.
How to Deep-Clean Your Filter (Chemical Soak)
- Rinse the filter first to remove loose debris.
- Dissolve filter cleaning solution in a large bucket or dedicated filter-soak container.
- Submerge the filter fully and soak overnight (8–12 hours).
- Remove and rinse thoroughly with fresh water until the water runs clear.
- Allow to dry completely before reinstalling.
